Australian Championships, November, 2004

USMA regrets to announce we will not be sending a team to Queensland to the Australian Championships, which also serve as selection trials for the ITF World Championship in Queensland next year. The following actions of the National Governing Body (NGB) are deeply disappointing:

  • Organising an Australian Championships without consultation with, or endorsement of its National Tournament Director
  • Failing to formally invite individual ITF clubs around Australia to participate in the Australian Championships
  • Making the fee structure for next year's ITF World Championships in Australia extremely expensive for local participants, especially for non-Queenslanders who also incur the cost of attending the Australian Championships

Unfortunately, a number of our talented club members will be unable to compete for places on the Australian team for the World Championships, depriving them of the opportunity and honour of representing their country, their state and their club in their martial art on the world stage. As a consequence of the actions of the NGB, the team selected for the world championships will not be truly representative of ITF Taekwon-Do in Australia and these actions will be detrimental to the future of ITF Taekwon-Do in Australia.

Oceanic Championships, October, 2004

USMA took a small team of 12 members to the Oceanic Championships, and for at least half of these, it was their first tournament. The team performed creditably with 10 members winning medals and everyone trying hard on the day.

September, 2004

We are pleased to welcome Gillian Edwards from GTF who is training with us while she is visiting from England.
