Early days at Ashburton
  • USMA was founded by Sabum Spiridon Cariotis in 1993.
  • USMA originated in Ashburn Grove, Ashburton.
  • USMA operates four (4) schools in the Melbourne area.

  • Sabum Cariotis is a qualified, International Instructor / Examiner with 35 years of experience in all areas of Martial Arts including the State, National and International circuit. He received his certificate after completing the training seminar in Dublin, Ireland in October 2002 with the legendary Grand Master Rhee Ki Ha.
  • Sabum Cariotis is also qualified with an A class Umpire / Referee Certificate which allows him to referee / judge International competitions.

Sabum Cariotis is proud that USMA is now a premier Martial Arts School in Victoria and Australia.

  • Sabum Spiridon Cariotis started Taekwon-do in 1972, Adelaide with Frank Griggs - Choong Bong Lee (Karate Academy of South Australia). During this span of over 34 years Sabum Cariotis also enjoyed and trained in other martial arts with many highly qualified Instructors:
    • Mud Duk Kwan - Instructor Choon Bong Lee
    • Goju Karate - Sensei Seigo Tada
    • Taekwon-Do / Goju, Kyokushinkai Kan - Instructor Frank Griggs
    • Shorin-Rye - Abet Presincula 7th Dan, Goushu Shido-Kan Hombu Shido-Kan Australia
    • Boxing - Sam Raptopoulos Runner Up State Champion Of South Australia
    • Taekwon-Do - Rhee International
    • Free- Style - Pascalis Karadimos 6th Dan (Rhee International)
    • Tang Shou - Pascalis Karadimos 5th Dan
  • Sabum Spiridon Cariotis instructs and has dedicated his life in Martial Arts to the Chang Hon style created by General Choi Hong Hi (1918 - 2002), Founder of Taekwondo.
